The Hitchikers

I stood with my hand in the wind
A sweet little dog by my side
Hoping to Heaven we'd beat the rain
That someone would give us a ride
Of Hippies and Truckers and such
Lonely old folks of good heart
We flew o'er the land
On the kindness of strangers
Many were friends when we'd part
I think of those days on the road
With bittersweet tears in my eye
And mourn my sweet dog
Now many years gone
Still faithfully here in my mind
